  The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Hon. Tamimu Halidu, has distributed livelihood support items to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality as part of efforts to empower them economically and reduce poverty. The initiative, which benefited over 41 physically challenged persons, is aimed at enhancing the social standing of PWDs, promoting self-reliance, and encouraging active participation in economic activities. Items distributed included deep freezers, fufu pounding machines, hair dryers, sewing machines, and other equipment to support small-scale businesses. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, has donated six professional five-aside footballs to the youth of Akyem Tontro in support of their end-of-year football gala. The donation was made on Saturday, 20th December 2025, as youth from Akyem Old Tafo, New Tafo, Tontro, and surrounding communities competed for the ultimate trophy in the gala competition.   The Enyiresi Government Hospital in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region has received a newly constructed two-storey self-contained building to serve as accommodation for doctors, courtesy of the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare. The facility was commissioned and officially handed over on 19th December 2025. Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare explained that the project was motivated by the long-standing challenge of inadequate accommodation, which often discourages doctors from accepting postings to rural areas. She said the provision of decent housing is key to attracting and retaining medical professionals in such communities.   Concerned citizens and business operators in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region have expressed varied views on Ghana’s ongoing fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, calling for a more balanced and inclusive approach. Speaking to the media on 16th December 2025, Mr. Owusu Agyapong, a merchant in the district, described the fight against illegal mining as a collective responsibility but raised concerns about the operational approach of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). According to him, officials of the EPA recently visited the district and announced that sellers of Chanfang engines would be targeted in their operations. Mr. Agyapong argued that the decision is misplaced, stressing that Chanfang engines are not designed solely for mining but are also used for farming purposes, including tractors and other agricultural machinery.
