  Tensions that erupted in Kukurantumi, a town in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, have begun to ease after violent clashes between irate youth and the police on Sunday, 21st September 2025. The unrest followed the death of a young man identified only as Bright, popularly known as “B Ball.” According to residents, the police, led by Chief Inspector Fumadoh, initially went to retrieve a stolen television but later attempted to arrest the deceased for allegedly possessing a substance suspected to be Indian hemp. In the course of the arrest, reports indicate that Bright allegedly stabbed a community police officer, an act which triggered the excessive force used by the officers to subdue him.
