E/R:Former Deputy Education Minister Visits Family of Deceased Kukurantumi Youth, Urges Calm

Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North and former Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), on Monday, September 22, 2025, paid a visit to the family of the late Kena Bright, popularly known as B Ball. The young man allegedly died after being brutalized by police officers led by Chief Inspector Fumadoh at Akyem Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality on Sunday, September 21, 2025. According to Hon. Twum-Ampofo, her visit was to sympathize with the bereaved family and help calm tensions in the community. Speaking to the media after the visit, she urged personnel of the Ghana Police Service to exercise professionalism and not emotions in carrying out their duties. E/R:Calm Restored at Kukurantumi After Violent Clashes Over Suspect’s Death

  Tensions that erupted in Kukurantumi, a town in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, have begun to ease after violent clashes between irate youth and the police on Sunday, 21st September 2025. The unrest followed the death of a young man identified only as Bright, popularly known as “B Ball.” According to residents, the police, led by Chief Inspector Fumadoh, initially went to retrieve a stolen television but later attempted to arrest the deceased for allegedly possessing a substance suspected to be Indian hemp. In the course of the arrest, reports indicate that Bright allegedly stabbed a community police officer, an act which triggered the excessive force used by the officers to subdue him. He sustained injuries during the confrontation and was later rushed to the hospital, where he died.
