E/R:Kukurantumi Farmers Protest Cattle Invasion and Sand Winning Activities, Petition MCE for Action

  Members of the Akyem Kukurantumi Farmers Association on Wednesday, January 8, 2026, embarked on a peaceful demonstration to protest the persistent invasion of cattle on their farmlands, as well as the activities of sand winners, which they say have led to the destruction of their crops and threatened their livelihoods. The farmers marched through principal streets of the town and later presented a petition to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) at the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in Akyem Kukurantumi, in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Placards carried by the demonstrators bore inscriptions such as “The cattle must leave,” “Stop selling our farms,” “Kukurantumi needs peace,” and “Our farms are being destroyed.” The demonstration was conducted peacefully under the supervision of the New Tafo District Police Command.
