Traditional leaders in Akyem Abuakwa have reaffirmed their commitment to national development by pledging support to government initiatives in education, agriculture, and healthcare. The pledge was made during the 2025 Ohumkan Festival held at Akyem Tafo Rovers Park on Saturday, June 21. Speaking at the grand durbar, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, Chief of Akyem Tafo, called on the government to prioritize support for educational infrastructure, particularly at WBM Zion Senior High School. He noted that the Free SHS policy has significantly increased student enrollment, creating a pressing need for additional classrooms, dormitories, and furniture at the school’s new site.   Barima Pobi Asomaning III, Chief of the Kyebi Akwadum community under the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in the Eastern Region, has voiced serious concern over the increasing neglect of children’s education by parents in mining communities. The event not only celebrated tradition and paid homage to ancestors, but also served as a platform to support brilliant but financially challenged students in the area. Dignitaries, government officials, residents, fa...

Speaking to journalist Nana Kwasi Asare during the festive occasion, the Chief noted that there is an old, dilapidated agricultural office building in the town that could easily be renovated and repurposed as a police station. Despite several appeals in the past, the project has seen little progress. However, Osabarima Bosompem remains hopeful that the government will finally heed their plea this year. “We have already identified a building that only needs renovation. Establishing a police station will significantly reduce crime and bring lasting peace to the area,” the Chief said. The Chief did not mince words when addressing some of the major challenges confronting his community. He ...
