  Asiakwa, Eastern Region — The residents of Asiakwa have raised alarm over the escalating illegal mining activities within the area, particularly around river sites such as Supon, Twafuo, and Akoosi, calling on the traditional leadership to take urgent action. In a strongly worded petition addressed to Daasebre Twum Ampofo II, Chief of Asiakwa, the community expressed grave concern over the environmental degradation caused by these operations.   The Akyem Tafo Traditional Council has officially launched the 2025 Ohumkan Festival, which will also commemorate the 40th anniversary of the enstoolment of Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, Omanhene of Akyem Tafo. Speaking at the forecourt of the Tafo Anwansa Ahenfie on Sunday, April 13, Kyidomhene Nana Adepa Amponsah Yeboah I highlighted the significance of the dual celebration and called for public support and participation in the festival activities. "Leadership is a critical ingredient in development, and Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV has demonstrated unmatched commitment to Akyem Tafo’s progress in education, health, youth empowerment, and culture over the past four decades," she noted.
