E/R: Abuakwa North MP Urges Cocoa Farmers to Avoid Smuggling as Government Invests in Industry Growth

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency, Honorable Dr. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, who also served as the former Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education, has called on cocoa farmers to desist from selling their produce to foreigners. She urged them to stop smuggling cocoa beans to neighboring countries, emphasizing that such actions undermine the government's significant investments in the cocoa industry. Speaking at the launch of the Abuakwa North Municipal Co-operative Cocoa Farming and Marketing Union Limited in Akyem New Tafo on the 18th October, 2024, Hon. Mahama's Gold Board Policy To Regularize Mining - NDC Spokesperson On Mines Assures

The NDC spokesperson on mining, Mr. Raymond Nana Ebbah asserts that the next NDC government is committed to enhancing and regularising the mining sector. Pointing out to journalists that the NDC has proposed the establishment of Gold Board to oversee and regulate the mining industry, address the issue of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, and promote responsible mining. He said the Gold Board will issue licenses to miners with local partners, including chiefs, the media, Minerals Commission, and other regulated bodies, giving clear geographical boundaries as their catchment area for production. According to him, the initiative is aimed at collaborating with traditional leaders, local communities, environmental organisations, and industry experts to implement its sustainable solutions outlined in the party 2024 manifesto to curb the galamsay menace.
