NAIMOS Cracks Down on Illegal Mining: Four Armed Thugs Arrested Along Ankobra River
Credit: Nana Kwasi Asare The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested four armed individuals engaged in illegal mining activities at Dominase in the Nzema East Municipality of Ghana's Western Region. The suspects, identified as Alpha Musa, 28; Rahaman Rojer, 29; Laji Bengali, 25; and Mohammed Agana, 25, were apprehended on May 20, 2026, during a routine patrol by the NAIMOS task force. The suspects, who were armed with machetes and pump-action guns, resisted arrest but were subdued by the task force. They alleged operating under the authority of certain National Security personnel, whose names have been handed over to the police for investigation. The illegal mining activities had caused significant environmental destruction, including pollution of the Ankobra River.
