  The Kwahu Easter Festival has kicked off in Kwahu Tafo, Eastern Region, with traditional pomp and pageantry. Nana OkyerÉ› Gyenya II, Krontihene of Kwahu Tafo, officially launched this year's festivities at the Kwahu Tafo Palace, highlighting the area's rich cultural heritage and tourist attractions. Nana OkyerÉ› Gyenya II emphasized the significance of preserving and showcasing Kwahu's traditions, pointing out notable sites that attract visitors. Nana Kwame Akuokuo, Secretary of the Kwahu Tafo Easter Festival Committee, expressed excitement about the event's programme, which includes a traditional walk (Nanatje), local food market, cooking competition, gospel music night, artiste night, and visits to tourist sites like the Butuase Waterfalls and Bruku Rock.   Credit: Janet Kwakye The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly is actively reclaiming land degraded by illegal mining (galamsey) to restore ecosystems and ensure safety. Hon. Tamimu Halidu, the Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), made this known during an inspection tour of reclamation sites. The Assembly has begun reclaiming abandoned hazardous pits, focusing on planting trees and restoring polluted water bodies and forests. About 50 acres of degraded land have been reclaimed so far. Halidu emphasized that traditional leaders must protect the restored areas to ensure a safe environment, given the high cost of reclamation. "We need to work together to safeguard our environment and prevent these areas from being exploited again," Halidu urged, highlighting the Assembly's commitment to the reclamation efforts.
