‎E/R:RIVER OF WORRY: Ankaase-Maase Residents Cry Foul Over Pollution of Lifeline Water Source

  The people of Ankaase-Maase, a community straddling the Abuakwa South and Abuakwa North Municipalities in Ghana's Eastern Region, are up in arms over the pollution of their main source of drinking water, River Kofi Bonpon. ‎ According to Nana Kwabena Donkor, aka Brembi, the community's lifeline is under threat from the nearby refuse dump site of Abuakwa North Municipality, which is situated upstream. "Whenever it rains, the running water carries the filth into the river, making it unfit for consumption," he lamented. ‎ Compounding the problem, fetish priests from Akyem Kukurantumi are allegedly polluting the water with animal blood and other ritual waste. The community is calling on authorities, particularly the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly, to intervene and prevent a health crisis.
