E/R: Dr. Kingsley Agyemang Introduces Akosua Agyeiwaa Teachers Award in Abuakwa South

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Hon. Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has launched a teachers’ award scheme aimed at recognising and motivating educators in the municipality. The initiative, dubbed the Akosua Agyeiwaa Teachers Award, held its maiden edition on Friday, December 20, 2025, at the Kibi College of Education Auditorium.

The award scheme seeks to appreciate teachers for their dedication, perseverance, and selfless service in shaping the lives of children, while encouraging excellence to improve the quality of education in Abuakwa South. According to Dr. Agyemang, recognising teachers is a vital step towards enhancing educational standards in the municipality.

The colourful ceremony attracted a broad cross-section of society, including teachers, traditional authorities, academics, clergy, local residents, and members of the diaspora. Dignitaries present included the Municipal Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa North, Hon. Appiah Kwame Kodua, the Eastern Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Musah Rahah, as well as other party executives.

The programme was fully sponsored by Hon. Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, with support from the Abuakwa South Municipal Education Directorate, headed by Madam Agnes Appiah. The 2025 edition was held under the theme “Honouring Dedication, Igniting Excellence.”

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Agyemang explained that the award was named after his late mother, Madam Akosua Agyeiwaa, whom he described as his first teacher and greatest source of encouragement throughout his educational journey.

He highlighted several education-focused initiatives he has championed over the years, including the Kingsley English and Mathematics Quiz, Kingsley Readathon, Kingsley Schools Football Competition, and continuous support for brilliant but needy students, particularly during his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the Scholarship Secretariat.

Dr. Agyemang cited instances where outstanding students from the municipality benefitted from his support, including twins from a basic school in Bunso who excelled in the maiden Kingsley English and Mathematics Quiz, gained admission to Abuakwa State College, and were later assisted to study at the University of Memphis in the United States. He also disclosed that two other students who obtained eight As at the WASSCE had received his support to study Medicine and Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He reaffirmed his commitment to education, describing it as his top priority and a powerful tool for transformation, based on his personal life experience.

Several teachers and education staff were honoured in various categories. Notable award recipients included Mrs. Comfort Ofori-Appiah, Municipal Director of Education, who received the MP’s Award for Educational Stewardship, and Mr. Prince Frimpong, who emerged as the Overall Best Teacher.

Other award categories recognised excellence across kindergarten, primary, junior high, special education, administration, office staff, and institutional support, among others.

Mr. Prince Frimpong, the Overall Best Teacher, was presented with a double-door refrigerator, a microwave, a laptop, an undisclosed cash prize, and an all-expenses-paid family hotel stay.

Award recipients expressed deep appreciation to Hon. Dr. Kingsley Agyemang for fully funding the maiden edition of the programme, describing it as exceptional and unprecedented. They noted that the initiative would serve as a strong motivation to deliver their best and pledged their continued commitment to providing quality education to drive development in Abuakwa South.
