E/R:Trinity Presbyterian Model School Stages Captivating Drama to Promote Cultural Awareness and Practical Learning
Trinity Presbyterian Model School, a government institution in Koforidua Adweso, Eastern Region, has staged a compelling drama titled The Dilemma of a Ghost to foster critical thinking, practical learning, and cultural appreciation among students.
The production aimed to enhance students’ writing skills in literature, encourage a deeper appreciation of Ghanaian heritage, and explore themes of cultural identity and adaptation. With its visually striking and emotionally engaging performance, the drama delivered a powerful commentary on human experiences and the challenges of navigating different cultural worlds.
Through this thought-provoking play, the school emphasized the importance of embracing cultural diversity, irrespective of religious or ethnic backgrounds. The script, written by renowned Ghanaian playwright Professor Ama Ata Aidoo, allowed students and parents to gain insight into Africa’s rich cultural traditions while instilling essential values and life skills.
The event attracted a diverse audience, including students from the Adweso Circuit, representatives from the New Juaben South Municipal Directorate, parents, teachers, and community members, making it a vibrant celebration of arts and culture. The performance was further enriched by dynamic dance routines and poetry recitals, showcasing the exceptional artistic talents of the students.
Speaking to the media, the Headmistress of Trinity Presbyterian Model School, Madam Vivian Obobisa Darko, expressed pride in the school's achievement. She lauded the students and teachers for their dedication in bringing literature to life through drama, reinforcing the school's reputation for academic and artistic excellence. She highlighted how the play provided students with a hands-on learning experience, deepening their understanding of literary themes and characters while equipping them with critical life skills.
Madam Darko also emphasized that The Dilemma of a Ghost has been instrumental in fostering cultural awareness and appreciation. By engaging with African traditions, particularly Ghanaian customs and religious practices, students have developed a stronger connection to their heritage. Furthermore, the play has encouraged respect and tolerance for diverse cultures, reinforcing the importance of unity in a multicultural society.
In a separate interview, Madam Phillis Afrane, an English teacher and assistant producer of the play, underscored the educational impact of the drama. She noted that The Dilemma of a Ghost is a key text in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) syllabus, and staging the play provided students with an immersive learning experience that enhances retention and comprehension. She encouraged other schools in Koforidua to adopt similar practical learning approaches to unlock students’ potential and improve academic outcomes.
Madam Afrane urged educators to integrate hands-on experiences across subjects, from English to local languages, to make learning more engaging and effective. She called on schools to embrace experiential education to help students discover their hidden talents and equip them with skills for future success.
