E/R:Kwahu West MCE Distributes Livelihood Support to Persons with Disabilities

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Hon. Tamimu Halidu, has distributed livelihood support items to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality as part of efforts to empower them economically and reduce poverty.

The initiative, which benefited over 41 physically challenged persons, is aimed at enhancing the social standing of PWDs, promoting self-reliance, and encouraging active participation in economic activities. Items distributed included deep freezers, fufu pounding machines, hair dryers, sewing machines, and other equipment to support small-scale businesses.

Addressing beneficiaries at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Tamimu Halidu explained that the Assembly engaged the beneficiaries to identify the items most suitable for improving their livelihoods before the purchases were made. He said the approach was intended to ensure that the support provided directly meets the needs of the recipients.

The MCE noted that the programme aligns with the vision of the President to discourage persons with disabilities from resorting to street begging. He urged beneficiaries to take good care of the items and cautioned them against selling them, warning that anyone found culpable would face sanctions. He further advised the recipients to reinvest the benefits from their enterprises to expand their businesses and create employment opportunities for others.

Some beneficiaries, in response, expressed appreciation to the government and the Municipal Chief Executive for the timely support. They pledged to put the items to good use and assured that they would not sell them but would utilize them for the intended purpose to improve their livelihoods.
