The Chief of Akyem Sokode-Juaso in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, Barimah Dr Kwabena Awuah Parker I, has condemned the indiscriminate sale of stool lands by unauthorised traditional leaders in the area.

He alleged that some sub-chiefs were using the names of their overlords to sell stool lands, particularly in Akyem Kukurantumi, a practice he said could trigger land disputes, litigation and unnecessary confusion among residents.

Barimah Dr Kwabena Awuah Parker I bemoaned that the indiscriminate sale of stool lands on which residents depend for farming is threatening their food security and livelihoods, as farmers are losing their arable lands to the alleged activities of some sub-chiefs from Akyem Kukurantumi.

He also questioned, “Where do you expect our farmers to farm when you sell their farmlands without the knowledge or consent of your overlord?”

Barimah Dr Kwabena Awuah Parker I called for an immediate end to the practice, insisting that decisions regarding the sale of stool lands must be made by the legitimate traditional authorities to safeguard peace, unity and development in the area.

He made the remarks during the commissioning of the newly constructed Akyem Sokode-Juaso Durbar Grounds and a thanksgiving service held on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

The event was chaired by Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, Akyem Tafohene.
