Barimah Dr Kwabena Awuah Parker I, Chief of Akyem Sokode-Juaso in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, has called on parents and the youth, particularly schoolchildren, to prioritise discipline as a key requirement for academic excellence and responsible living.


He expressed concern over incidents in which some parents allegedly attack teachers for punishing their children for misconduct, describing the practice as unacceptable and detrimental to efforts to instil discipline in schools.


The chief urged parents to desist from such behaviour and instead cooperate with teachers to ensure that their children are properly guided and corrected when they go wrong.


According to him, discipline plays a crucial role in shaping the character of young people and helping them achieve academic success. He stressed that parents must support teachers in maintaining discipline rather than undermine their efforts to correct students.


Barimah Dr Awuah Parker I further called on the youth, especially school-going children, to cultivate good behaviour, respect their teachers and elders, and take their education seriously.


He emphasised that effective collaboration between parents, teachers and traditional authorities was necessary to promote discipline and create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.


The chief made these remarks during the commissioning of the newly constructed Akyem Sokode-Juaso Durbar Grounds and a thanksgiving service held on Sunday, October 18, 2026.


He called for a collective commitment from parents, teachers and the wider community to uphold discipline and nurture responsible young people who would contribute meaningfully to the development of Akyem Sokode-Juaso and the country at large.
