E/R:Kwahu West Assembly To Prosecute Sanitation Offenders Over Indiscriminate Refuse Disposal

The Kwahu West Municipal Environmental Health Director, Mr. Diamond Kwame Amedonu, says the Assembly will no longer spare persons who flout sanitation regulations and will prosecute offenders to serve as a deterrent.


Speaking after a clean-up exercise, Mr. Amedonu disclosed that persons who indiscriminately dispose of refuse have been served to face prosecution in court. He said the move is to promote responsible sanitation practices, improve environmental cleanliness, and protect public health.


He noted that the exercise involved desilting of choked gutters and sweeping within electoral areas to enhance the Municipality's capacity to deal with sanitation challenges and improve waste management for a cleaner and more environmentally friendly environment.


In a related development, the Director of KLEMAV Sanitation Company in charge of the Kwahu West Municipality, Mr. Eric Klenam, disclosed that the company has intensified efforts to improve environmental cleanliness and waste management.


He said KLEMAV has procured a fleet of sanitation equipment and logistics, including tricycles and other tools for refuse collection and sanitation-related operations, to strengthen the operations of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Department.


Mr. Klenam said the logistics will be used to engage residents on proper environmental practices and significantly strengthen waste collection and sanitation monitoring activities, describing it as a step towards building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Kwahu West.


He reiterated KLEMAV's commitment to promoting environmental sanitation and safeguarding public health through innovative interventions, assuring that the new logistics will effectively improve sanitation services.


He, however, expressed concern about the failure of some traders and residents to clean their frontages after their daily activities, describing it as unacceptable for traders to leave heaps of rubbish behind and return home without cleaning their surroundings. He emphasized that keeping one's frontage clean is not only a civic responsibility but also a legal requirement.


He added that KLEMAV intends to extend sanitation education campaigns to schools to sustain public education.
