E/R: Six Injured as Toyota Corolla Plunges into Birim River at Biremso



Six male occupants have sustained injuries after a Toyota Corolla plunged into the Birim River at Biremso on the Accra-Kumasi Highway, near Anyinasin Junction, in the Eastern Region.


The accident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, and prompted a swift response from the Bunso Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).


According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at 9:04 a.m., reporting the accident. A duty crew led by ADO II Dacosta Amankwah was immediately dispatched at 9:06 a.m. and arrived at the scene at 9:11 a.m.


An eyewitness told firefighters that he heard a loud crash and rushed to the scene, where he found a black Toyota Corolla with registration number GR 1425-18 in the Birim River.


Before the arrival of the GNFS team, members of the public had rescued the occupants from the vehicle and transported them to Hawa Saviour Memorial Hospital for medical attention.


The six occupants, all males, sustained various injuries. No fatalities were recorded in the accident.


The Toyota Corolla was completely damaged in the crash, while some personal belongings were recovered from the vehicle.


The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
