E/R:Police Arrest 258 Suspects Following Violent Disturbances at Nsawam–Adoagyiri



Nsawam–Adoagyiri, Eastern Region – The Eastern South Regional Police Command, with support from a team from the National Operations Directorate, has arrested 258 suspects in connection with the violent disturbances that erupted at Nsawam–Adoagyiri on 7th July 2026.


According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that some youth allegedly engaged in acts of vandalism, looting, and robbery during the disturbances. The suspects are believed to have looted several shops, set fire to an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer, vandalized the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astro turf facility, and robbed a number of mobile money vendors, creating widespread fear and panic among residents.


During the security operation, officers retrieved two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, as well as several mobile phones believed to be relevant to the ongoing investigations.


The Police said all 258 suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with investigations. They added that those found culpable would be processed in accordance with the law.


The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property and maintain law and order in the affected communities. The Command further appealed to the public to volunteer any information that could assist investigations by reporting to the nearest Police Station.


The Police also urged residents, particularly the youth, to remain law-abiding and refrain from engaging in acts capable of disrupting public peace and security, stressing that criminal activities and violence will not be tolerated.
