E/R: Abuakwa North MP Honours Outstanding Teachers at Maiden Excellence Awards, Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Education

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency, Hon. Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frempong, has honoured outstanding teaching and non-teaching staff across the municipality at the maiden edition of the 2026 Member of Parliament's Excellence Awards, held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at New Leaders Hotel in Akyem Tafo.


The awards ceremony was instituted to recognise the dedication, resilience, and invaluable contributions of teachers and education workers whose commitment continues to shape the future of schoolchildren in the Abuakwa North Municipality. The initiative forms part of the MP's broader vision of improving educational standards by boosting teacher morale and rewarding excellence in service.


The awards were presented to deserving teaching and non-teaching staff from both public and private educational institutions who distinguished themselves through exceptional commitment and performance. Awardees received refrigerators, television sets, home appliances, plaques, certificates, and other valuable items in recognition of their outstanding service to education.



Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frempong said recognising teachers publicly transforms their often unnoticed sacrifices into a source of pride for the entire community. According to him, rewarding excellence motivates educators to become more innovative in their teaching methods while inspiring others to strive for higher standards in the delivery of quality education.


He noted that the initiative complements other educational interventions introduced by his office, including the recently launched MP's Reading Festival, which held its maiden edition in Kukurantumi and subsequently staged its second edition at the New Tafo Presbyterian Hall. The programme seeks to cultivate a strong reading culture among pupils and students throughout the constituency.


The Member of Parliament reiterated his commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to strengthen education in Abuakwa North, stressing that investing in teachers ultimately translates into improved learning outcomes for students.


The chief of Akyem Tafo, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, commended the Member of Parliament for his unwavering commitment to the development of the constituency. He observed that since assuming office, Hon. Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frempong has implemented several impactful initiatives across various sectors, particularly education. The traditional ruler described the teachers' awards as a commendable intervention that elevates the image of the teaching profession while motivating educators to continue giving their best.


The Abuakwa North Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Grace Adza-Awude, together with the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, also praised the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind in the municipality. They noted that recognising excellence among teachers would inspire improved teaching and learning while contributing significantly to quality education. They expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament for his exemplary leadership and continuous support for education and encouraged him to sustain the initiative.


The award recipients expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frempong for recognising their efforts and sacrifices. They described the awards as a major source of encouragement and motivation to continue giving their best in nurturing future generations, while invoking God's blessings upon the Member of Parliament for his thoughtfulness.


The event also featured the presentation of citations of appreciation to distinguished traditional leaders and education administrators for their exceptional leadership and contributions to education and community development. Among those honoured were Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, Omanhene of Akyem Tafo; Nanahemaa Oforiwaa Denkyiraa, Adonteng Hemaa; Nanahemaa Brempomaa Amoafoa, Ati Hemaa; Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, Eastern Regional Director of Education; Mrs. Grace Adja-Awude, Abuakwa North Municipal Director of Education; Mr. Andrews Antwi Gyimah, Headmaster of Oda Senior High School (OPASS); Nana Appiadu Danso, Deputy Director of Education; Mrs. Abena Warewaa Debrah, Headmistress of AMEZSS, among several other deserving personalities.


Some of the teachers recognised included Madam Konadu Christina, Mr. Atople Evans (Second Runner-up, SHS Category), Madam Abena Obemah Abrokwaa (First Runner-up), Mr. Owiredu Maxwell (Overall Best SHS Teacher), Mr. Samuel Acheampong (Overall Best STEM Teacher), Mr. Maxwell Gyimah (Second Runner-up, Headteacher Category), Mr. Asamoah Isaac (First Runner-up, Headteacher Category), and Madam Amankwaa Grace of New Tafo Presbyterian School, who was adjudged Overall Best Headteacher.


The colourful ceremony brought together traditional authorities, education officials, school heads, teachers, political leaders, and community members in a celebration of excellence in education. The event concluded on a high note, with many participants describing the awards as a landmark initiative that will inspire professionalism, dedication, and excellence among educators while strengthening efforts to improve educational outcomes in the Abuakwa North Constituency.
