‎Anas Ahmed Appeals to President Mahama to Revive Takoradi-Accra Train Line to Ease Capital Congestion ‎

‎Ghana– Anas Ahmed, Aspiring NDC Central Regional Deputy Secretary for 2026, has made a direct appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize the proposed railway project linking Takoradi to Accra via Cape Coast, Mankesim, Apam, and Winneba.

‎In his open letter titled _“Humble Appeal to H.E John Dramani Mahama,”_ Ahmed argues that an operational train service along the coastal corridor could be a game-changer for Ghana’s urban planning and daily commuting stress.

‎He says the congestion choking Accra can be significantly reduced if more people choose to settle in growing towns along the proposed rail stretch, including Gomoa, Apam, Twifo Praso, Cape Coast, and Effutu. With a reliable train, residents could live outside the capital and still commute to work with ease.

‎“Mr President, please think about the Train Lane Project... If I wake up at 5:30am and there is a train to bring me to work at the ministries in Accra by 7:30am, why wouldn’t I choose my security over desperation to live in Accra by all means?” he wrote.

‎Ahmed also pointed to wider systemic challenges holding communities back — poor transportation, inadequate drainage systems, lawlessness, and what he describes as “greed.” He contends that when citizens feel their efforts are recognized and rewarded, the incentive for corruption and self-serving actions diminishes.

‎“Our collective actions and inactions are the issues and nothing else. Indeed, the reset can be activated to change everything,” he stated, referencing the government’s broader reset agenda.

‎He concluded with a call for action: “A word to a wise is enough.”

‎The appeal adds to growing public calls for investment in Ghana’s rail network as a long-term solution to traffic, housing pressure in Accra, and regional economic balance.
