Humanity Beyond Bars: Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe Leads Historic Outreach to Nsawam Prison

A major humanitarian outreach initiative was held at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison on Thursday, May 21, 2026, as a delegation of prominent Ghanaian personalities, football legends, dignitaries, entertainers, and philanthropists visited inmates to offer support, hope, and encouragement.

The initiative, spearheaded by the KN Foundation in collaboration with the Joana Gyan Foundation, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana and the Ghana Football Association, brought together approximately 150 to 170 participants from different sectors of society in what organizers described as a mission of compassion, unity, and humanity.

The delegation departed Accra at about 8:00 AM to embark on the outreach, which aimed at reminding inmates that they are not forgotten and that society still cares about their well-being and rehabilitation.

Speaking after the visit, Joana Gyan Cudjoe described the experience as one of the most emotional and life-changing moments of her life.

According to her, the outreach was not organized for publicity or entertainment purposes but rather to show love, encouragement, and support to inmates who are going through difficult moments in life.

She noted that many inmates are battling emotional pain, loneliness, regret, and lack of support, while some are struggling with legal and financial challenges. She stressed that although justice must prevail, many incarcerated persons also deserve compassion, guidance, and opportunities for rehabilitation.

The emotional atmosphere at the prison reportedly moved many members of the delegation to tears as inmates expressed gratitude for the visit. Some inmates commended Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe for her efforts in organizing the humanitarian exercise.

The Member of Parliament further praised the collaboration and unity demonstrated by former and current football administrators in making the outreach successful. She particularly acknowledged Kwesi Nyantakyi for his leadership and coordination role, as well as Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku for his support and presence throughout the exercise.

Among the personalities who participated in the outreach were football legends including Abedi Ayew Pele and Samuel Osei Kuffour, alongside several football administrators, politicians, business leaders, legal practitioners, and educational figures.

Popular Ghanaian entertainers including Dr Cryme and Patapaa also joined the exercise to inspire inmates and promote hope and national unity.

As part of the outreach, the delegation donated jerseys, footballs, tracksuits, rice, fish, drinking water, and undisclosed cash support to both inmates and prison officers. The donations were aimed at improving welfare and supporting recreational activities within the prison facility.

The organizers also commended prison officers and management at Nsawam Prison for their professionalism, discipline, and dedication despite challenging working conditions.

The delegation later paid a courtesy call on traditional leaders at the Nsawam Palace, where they were warmly received by chiefs and elders.

Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe used the occasion to advise the youth of Ghana to avoid crime, violence, and actions driven by anger or ego, stressing that freedom should never be taken for granted.

Quoting Matthew 25:36, she emphasized the importance of compassion and visiting those in prison, adding that every human being deserves hope, dignity, and another opportunity in life.

The outreach was supported by several institutions and corporate partners, including Swiss Wealth Solutions, Golden Empire Legacy Ltd, Goldpath Developers, Oasis International School, Tema Steel Company Ltd, and other organizations committed to humanitarian causes.
