E/R:ABUAKWA NORTH GETS 24-HOUR ECONOMY MARKET AS MCE CUTS SOD FOR CONSTRUCTION
Construction has officially commenced on a new 24-hour economy market in Akyem New Tafo in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, following a sod-cutting ceremony led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Charles Darko Yeboah, popularly known as Ozey.
The ceremony brought together key stakeholders including the Municipal Coordinating Director, traditional authorities, executives of the Abuakwa North Constituency branch of the NDC led by their chairman Alhaji Sadidi Mohammed, representatives from the Zongo community, staff of the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly, and residents.
Addressing attendees, the Chief of Akyem Tafo, Dasebre Adusei Piasah IV, expressed gratitude to the government for extending the 24-hour economy market initiative to the municipality. He pledged his full support for the successful execution of the project and assured the contractor of his readiness to facilitate the relocation of current occupants on the project site to pave way for construction.
According to the chief, the current Akyem New Tafo market has become congested, forcing many traders to occupy nearby roads. He described the planned expansion through the new market as timely and beneficial to the growing municipality.
Hon. Charles Darko Yeboah, in his remarks, commended President John Dramani Mahama for rolling out the 24-hour economy policy across the country, noting that Abuakwa North had been included as part of the initiative. He indicated that the project fulfills a key campaign promise made by the President to improve economic opportunities and enhance trading activities nationwide.
He further disclosed that the proposed ultra-modern market will include open trading spaces, a fire station, police post, clinic, pharmacy, nursery school, warehouse, cold store, and several other modern facilities aimed at supporting both traders and consumers.
The Municipal Chief Executive also assured the contractor of the assembly’s full cooperation to ensure the timely completion of the project.
The market, to be constructed near the Akyem Tafo Magistrate Court in New Tafo Akyem, is expected to be completed within two years by Piwark Construction and Real Estate LTD.
