President Mahama Directs Withdrawal of Bill Seeking to Repeal Office of Special Prosecutor Act
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Majority Leader and the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament to withdraw a Private Member’s Bill aimed at repealing the Act that established the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
The decision follows the President’s recent public endorsement of efforts to strengthen the Office of the Special Prosecutor as a key institution in the national fight against corruption. He reiterated this stance during a meeting with the Peace Council on Wednesday, where he emphasized the office’s critical role in promoting accountability.
President Mahama further urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor to intensify its efforts in boosting public confidence and combating corruption in line with the mandate that guided its establishment.
The directive was communicated by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
