E/R:Osino Court Compels Kwabeng Faction Leader to Sign Peace Bond Amid Rising Tensions

The prolonged chieftaincy and development dispute in Kwabeng took a significant turn on Wednesday when the Osino District Court directed Bafour Abusuapanyin Oduro Firikyi and opposing parties to sign a peace bond to help restore calm in the community.

The directive followed arguments from lawyers representing both factions, who presented their positions before the court. Concerns over rising tensions and recent confrontations in Kwabeng prompted the judge to impose the peace bond as an immediate measure to prevent further disturbances.

Initially, Bafour Abusuapanyin Oduro Firikyi and his legal team resisted the order, insisting that they had already filed an interlocutory injunction which they expected to be served. The court, however, dismissed the objection and maintained its position. In the end, Bafour Abusuapanyin Oduro Firikyi complied and signed the bond as instructed.

The situation forms part of ongoing disputes in Kwabeng relating to leadership legitimacy, land administration, mining interests, and the control of community development initiatives. Traditional leaders have repeatedly raised concerns about deepening divisions in the area. Earlier, Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, Okyenman Gyaasehene and Kwabenghene, expressed frustration over attempts to undermine his authority, citing threats to his safety that previously required security intervention during a DISEC meeting.

With multiple petitions and counterclaims still pending, tensions remain high. The peace bond is expected to provide temporary stability as the substantive matters proceed in court. Many residents and leaders now look to the judiciary and regional authorities to help steer Kwabeng back toward lasting peace and order.
