‎E/R: MCE Leads Emergency Response After Deadly Rainstorm Hits Abuakwa North ‎

A devastating rainstorm accompanied by strong winds struck parts of Abuakwa North on the evening of Tuesday, 20th May 2025, around 7:00 pm, lasting nearly three hours and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

‎At New Tafo Ayigbe Town, an “Atakpame” mud house with house number TB 246 collapsed as a result of the storm, affecting ten individuals. Tragically, a two-year-old boy, Okyere Eugene, lost his life and has since been transported to the New Tafo Government Hospital mortuary for further investigation. The New Tafo Akyem District Police Command has launched an inquiry into the incident.

In response to the tragedy, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Abuakwa North, Mr. Charles Yeboah Darko, affectionately known as Ozey, led a team from the Municipal NADMO Directorate, headed by Mr. Stephen Osei Wusu, to visit and console the bereaved family. The team also extended their visit to the Akyem Osiem Afigya Electoral Area, where flooding caused the collapse of a footbridge and erosion around a high-tension electric pole.

‎Further inspection was carried out at Akyem Kukurantumi, where the heavy rains led to significant flooding. Speaking to the media, Mr. Stephen Osei Wusu announced that the Municipal Engineers, under the directive of the MCE, would be deployed to assess the extent of the damage and recommend solutions.

He cautioned residents to take precautionary measures during the rainy season by reinforcing weak roofing structures and desilting gutters. He further urged the public to refrain from dumping refuse into drains and constructing buildings on waterways to prevent future disasters.
