E/R:Abuakwa North MCE and Sokode-Juaso Chief Forge Strong Partnership for Community Development

Honourable Dr. Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Abuakwa North in Ghana's Eastern Region, has reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with Barima Dr. Awuah Parker I, the Chief of Sokode-Juaso, to drive sustained socio-economic development in the community. This partnership, which marks a unique chapter in the MCE's tenure, was highlighted during a visit by Barima Dr. Awuah Parker I and his delegation to the MCE's office on Monday 11th November, 2024. The Chief’s visit was aimed at expressing gratitude for the recent success of the 40th National Farmers' Day Celebration held on November 8, 2024, in Sokode-Juaso under the theme, "Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security."

In his remarks, Hon. Dr. Bodinga expressed that, in his four years as MCE, this was the first time he had received such substantial support and partnership from a local chief for Farmers' Day. This year’s event was notably elevated by Barima Dr. Awuah Parker's contribution, which included the use of astroturfed grounds, a live band, and a standby generator—an unprecedented enhancement that added new levels of engagement and appreciation for the local farming community.

“This is the first time in my four years as MCE that I have received such robust support and collaboration for Farmers’ Day. It’s clear that Barima Dr. Awuah Parker is a development-focused leader, and his enthusiasm has made Sokode-Juaso a model of community advancement. His involvement demonstrates that he is a crucial partner for the socio-economic progress of both our community and Ghana as a whole,” Dr. Bodinga remarked.

He went on to assure Barima Dr. Awuah Parker of the Assembly’s technical and administrative support for the Chief's future projects, including the planned construction of an AstroTurf football pitch. Dr. Bodinga described Barima Dr. Awuah Parker as a "team player" who has transformed Sokode-Juaso’s development landscape within just a year of his enstoolment. He highlighted several achievements, such as the installation of a rural telephony mast to enhance connectivity by government and the government’s provision of a six-unit classroom facility complete with ancillary amenities for local students.

Notably, Hon. Dr. Bodinga pledged that the Assembly's upcoming distribution of fertilizers to farmers—an initiative led by the Department of Agriculture—will commence from Sokode-Juaso as a demonstration of his commitment to the Chief’s vision. He also committed to supporting the local youth football team, Professional Stars FC, by providing them with a set of jerseys and three footballs. In addition, he called on other traditional leaders to follow the Chief’s example and work closely with government institutions for the betterment of their communities.

For his part, Barima Dr. Awuah Parker I extended his thanks to the Municipal Assembly for selecting Sokode-Juaso as the venue for the National Farmers' Day celebration. He praised Dr. Bodinga for his inclusive leadership style and welcomed the MCE's commitment to continuing their collaborative efforts to support local development. The Chief emphasized that peace and unity would remain his guiding principles as he works alongside the Assembly to further improve the lives of the people in Sokode-Juaso.

The meeting was also attended by several distinguished officials, including Mr. Emil Tawiah Atsu, Municipal Coordinating Director; Mrs. Josephine Ansu, Municipal Finance Officer; Mr. Emmanuel Blemanor, Municipal Protocol Officer; Hon. Alex Boadu, Assemblyman for Sokode-Juaso; Nana Kwadwo Opare, Gyaasehene of Sokode-Juaso; Nana Frank Obuobi, and other sub-chiefs. This high-level engagement highlighted the community's collective vision for progress and a shared commitment to creating a brighter future for all.
