The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly has officially cut sod for the commencement of 13 major development projects across five communities within the municipality. The projects include educational facilities, boreholes, zonal council offices, and health centres, all aimed at improving access to essential social amenities.   A supposed gold transaction at Akwadum in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region has ended in a violent robbery, leaving a local family traumatized and out of GH₵200,000 in cash. According to reports, Derick Boadu was on 19th April 2025 contacted by a man who identified himself as Nana Yaw, allegedly calling from Tarkwa, claiming to have gold for sale. Derick paid GH₵1,000 to facilitate the transportation of the supposed sellers from Tarkwa to Akwadum. Three men arrived and, due to transportation difficulties, spent the night at Nayamas Guest House at Odumase. Derick said the men later called him at about 4 a.m. the next day to meet for the transaction.   Officers from the Abuakwa South Municipal office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Eastern Region, led by the Municipal Director, Mr. Aikins Ofori, have embarked on a monitoring tour across the municipality to assess the impact of mining activities in the area.
