NDC Advised to Avoid Appointing Independent MPs to Protect Party Stability

Image
A call has been made to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid appointing or supporting independent Members of Parliament (MPs) to protect the party's unity and long-term interests. The advice stems from concerns about the increasing trend of party members breaking away to run as independents, potentially undermining the party’s strength and stability.   In a statement, it was noted that the appointment of Hon. Andrew Asiamah, an independent MP, as Deputy Speaker of Parliament in 2021, created challenges for both the NPP and the NDC. The event reportedly inspired more individuals to pursue the independent path, often at the expense of their original parties.   The 2024 general election has seen a significant rise in independent candidates, many of whom left their parties to challenge official candidates. According to the statement, some of these individuals aim to secure political appointments or influence through their independent status, potentially destab...
