E/R: Atiwa West MP Supports Over 700 Fresh SHS Students with Trunks, Mattresses and School Bags

The Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Hon. Laurette Korkor Asante, has presented trunks, mattresses and school bags to more than 700 newly admitted Senior High School students across the constituency.


The initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and ensuring that no child misses school because of a lack of basic educational supplies.


The donation forms part of the MP’s broader education support initiative to help newly admitted students report to school fully equipped and ready to begin their academic journey.


Addressing the students and parents at Akyem Akrofufuhene in the Atiwa West Constituency during the presentation, Hon. Laurette Korkor Asante explained the rationale behind the intervention and its long-term impact.


She said every child in the constituency should attain at least secondary education to enable them to understand life, adapt to modern society and develop the analytical skills needed to critically assess issues and make independent decisions.


According to her, failure in one subject should not define a child’s entire life. She encouraged the students to believe that where there is a will, there is a way, and urged them to take their studies seriously because education opens doors regardless of one’s background.


She noted that education can propel and elevate an individual beyond their immediate circumstances.


The MP said the Senior High School stage is only the beginning of the students’ journey and urged them to study hard to enable them to progress to the university, pursue Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), or become entrepreneurs.


She added that education has given people from disadvantaged backgrounds a voice and an opportunity to occupy positions of influence and contribute meaningfully to society.


Hon. Korkor Asante disclosed that when she decided to contest the parliamentary seat, one of her top priorities was to ensure that every child in the constituency received a solid education.


She said she did not want a situation where a child would miss school simply because their family could not afford a trunk, mattress or other basic necessities, hence her decision to support the students.


The MP assured residents that the initiative would continue for as long as she remains in office.


She recalled that last year, she supported 500 SHS entrants with GH¢500 each to purchase provisions and said the programme would continue next year.


Hon. Korkor Asante advised the students to study hard, stressing that knowledge acquired through education cannot be taken away from them.


She said the knowledge and skills they acquire would help them become future leaders of the Atiwa West Constituency and Ghana as a whole.
