E/R: Kwahu West Assembly Calls for Stronger Accountability and Professionalism in Public Service

The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly has taken a major step toward strengthening local governance with its first-ever Joint Stakeholders Mid-Year Review Session. The meeting brought together all key government institutions, as well as decentralized and non-decentralized departments operating within the municipality, to reaffirm a shared commitment to accountability, professionalism, and effective public service delivery.


Speaking at the session, the Municipal Coordinating Director, _Rev. Daniel Nkrumah_, stressed that the Assembly, as the coordinating authority for local governance, must be fully briefed on the plans, programs, achievements, and challenges of every institution in the area. 


He explained that for the Municipal Chief Executive to provide proper leadership and facilitate solutions, there must be continuous collaboration and open communication. 


_"It is essential that every institution strengthens its relationship with the Municipal Assembly,"_ Rev. Nkrumah said. _"Respond promptly when reports are needed, share data, exchange ideas, harmonize annual plans, and jointly address the development challenges confronting the Municipality."_


He further emphasized that fairness, transparency, accountability, and integrity must guide all operations. He urged departments and agencies to be proactive and work closely together to ensure effective coordination and efficient service delivery.


Rev. Nkrumah also reminded stakeholders that the Municipal Chief Executive serves as the representative of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana within the municipality. As such, the MCE exercises executive and political authority at the local level on behalf of the President. This means every government institution in Kwahu West forms part of one coordinated local governance system under the leadership of the Municipal Assembly, with the goal of ensuring accountability, proper use of public resources, and improved service delivery.


The Municipal Chief Executive, _Hon. Tamimu Halidu_, also called on all government workers in the municipality to uphold the core principles of public service: accountability and professionalism. 


He noted that while each institution has a unique statutory mandate, their collective efforts are what drive development in Kwahu West. He cited examples: the _Electricity Company of Ghana_ provides power; _Ghana Water Limited_ supplies potable water; the _Ghana Health Service_ safeguards public health; the _Ghana Education Service_ builds human capital; the _Ghana Police Service_ maintains law and order; the _Ghana National Fire Service_ protects lives and property; and the _National Ambulance Service_ provides emergency medical response. 


"All these institutions play indispensable roles,"_ Hon. Halidu said. _"With collective performance and teamwork, we can achieve meaningful and sustainable development for the people of Kwahu West."
