Akyem Kade marks 2026 Palm Festival - Leaders emphasise youth in agribusiness.
The Chiefs and the people of Akyem Kade in the Kwaebibrem Municipality of the Eastern Region has celebrated Palm Festival to drive an ambitious "Youth in Agriculture Initiatives targeting local agribusiness.
The Chief of Akyem Kade, Osaberima Asare Twe ll said, his vision is to make Kade a dynamic Palm Plantation agribusiness where agriculture activities would create job opportunities for the youth and and economic transformation throughout.
He made the remarks at Kade the weekend during the celebration of palm festival on the theme Transforming Agricultural Through the Youth in Agribusiness Innovative.
The festival brought together hundreds of indegenes and foreign visitors to showcased the cultural pride of the people while highlighted the need to transform the palm oil value chain into a driver of local industrialisation and employment l.
He emphasised that supporting youth to venture into palm cultivation was a practical way to tackle unemployment and curb illegal mining. I am happy to say that since my enstoolment as Kadehene, this is my initiative. During my first year outing, I promised to organise a palm festival because I realised that we needed to create job opportunities for our youth before we can stop them from engaging in illegal mining" he said.
Osaberima Asare has appealed to the government to support the agricultural sector to help create more job opportunities for the youth if it is committed to ending illegal small-scale mining in the country.
He has released between 20,000 and 30,000 acres of land at Akyem Kade for oil palm plantations under the Youth in Palm Plantation Initiative.
The Chairman of the festival celebration and Director for Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Ghana, (CSIR), Principal Research Scientist, CSIR-Oil Palm Research Institute Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Dr. Isaac Danso said oil palm industry has generated income and contribute significantly to the economic development of Ghana, including Akyem Kade and it's environment.
He said it is not only festival celebrations of richer heritage but also an opportunity to reflect on a tremendous progress made by the farmers, palm oil processors, high research scientists, marketers, and traditional authorities and all stakeholders along the oil palm value chain.
According to him, the success of the oil palm industry is a testimony to what can be achieved through collaboration, Innovation and dedication. He paid a tribute to the revered Chiefs and Queenmothers who leadership and stewardship of the land and community development has made agricultural advancement possible in the Kade traditional area and its environment. Dr. Danso emphasised the support for research technology abduction and sustainable land use continues to contribute immediately to the growth of oil palm sub-sector for the youth, women, men and also to ensure the benefits reaches every stakeholder.
He further urged the people to recommit themselves to protect the environment, very key, adopting climate agricultural smart practices and preserving the natural resources for the future generations to all exhibitors OPRI. He expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their contributions towards making the festival successful. He hoped that the discussions during the the festival would inspire new ideas, forster stronger collaboration and open new opportunities for the growth of the oil palm industry in Akyem Kade and it's environment.
Hon. Emmanuel Kofi Nti MCE for Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly also said the authority remain committed to supporting young people to venture into agriculture through various programmes, including skills training programmes, agribusiness combines traditional cultural gatherings with youth empowerment to transform palm farming into highly profitable sustainable business.
