E/R: Hon Gifty Twum-Ampofo Urges BECE Candidates to Stay Focused, Prioritize Studies Ahead of Exams
Former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North and former Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, popularly known as Hajia Kande, has advised parents of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates to reduce the burden of household chores on their children as they prepare for their final examinations.
According to her, minimizing household responsibilities will help candidates concentrate fully on their studies and improve their chances of academic success. She also encouraged students to avoid excessive use of mobile phones and television, stressing that distractions could negatively affect their preparation.
Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo further called for political tolerance at the grassroots level, highlighting the cordial relationship she has maintained with executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). She urged political actors and supporters to promote peace and unity in the interest of national development.
Speaking on youth development and healthy living, she emphasized the importance of regular physical exercise, particularly among young people and middle-aged adults, as a means of maintaining good health. She also commended the organizers of the event for promoting wellness in the constituency.
Also present at the event was Akyem Bosodumasihene, Barimah Appiah Asare, who supported the call for healthy living through regular exercise. He additionally cautioned the youth against the use of illicit drugs, warning of their harmful effects on both health and future prospects.
The remarks were made during a health walk organized by the Abuakwa North Fitness Club on Thursday, 1st May 2026, as part of activities marking May Day celebrations.
The walk, which attracted approximately 400 participants, began at Akyem Kukurantumi and passed through Akyem Ati and Akyem New Tafo before ending at the forecourt of the Akyem Old Tafo Awansa Palace. Participants were also engaged in aerobics sessions and health screening exercises.
Lead organizer of the programme, Hon. Agyeman Afari, explained that the initiative was aimed at promoting healthy living while making Workers’ Day a memorable occasion in Abuakwa North. He expressed gratitude to sponsors and encouraged the public to regularly undergo health screening as part of efforts to maintain good health.
