W/R:Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe: Trailblazing MP Transforming Ghana’s Mining and Empowerment Landscape

Hon. Mrs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central Constituency, has emerged as one of Ghana’s most influential women redefining leadership, entrepreneurship, and empowerment across Africa’s mining and business sectors.

As founder and CEO of Golden Empire Legacy Ltd (GELL)—Ghana’s largest licensed gold exporting company—Hon. Joana has championed sustainable and ethical mining practices that have earned international recognition for promoting responsible and green gold production. Since assuming leadership in 2019, GELL has attracted over US$400 million in local and foreign investment, created thousands of jobs, and cemented Ghana’s reputation as a trusted player in the global gold trade.

Her visionary leadership extends beyond mining into logistics, refining, fintech, and community development—anchored on the principles of inclusive growth and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those on poverty reduction, gender equality, decent work, industrial innovation, and climate action.

In Ghana’s political landscape, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe made history as the first woman elected to represent Amenfi Central Constituency, recording the highest number of votes and widest winning margin in the area’s electoral history. She currently serves on the Parliamentary Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs, contributing to national policy on food security, agribusiness, and the cocoa economy.

Beyond business and politics, Hon. Joana’s philanthropic vision shines through the Joana Gyan Foundation, which supports education, healthcare, and empowerment initiatives across deprived communities. Her foundation has provided thousands of scholarships, built and refurbished schools and boreholes, and funded critical medical care for the less privileged.

She also holds several leadership roles including:

National Coordinator – NDC Women’s Working Committee

Patron – NDC Disability Desk and Western Region Women’s Committee

Advisory Board Member – Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council

Member – Institute of Directors, UK

Board Member – Samartex Football Club (appointed July 2025)

Her exceptional contributions have been recognized with numerous national and international awards such as the Outstanding Female Miner Award (Ghana Women Awards 2025), Global Entrepreneurs Award (Dubai 2023), and Ghana Mining Industry Leadership Award (2021), among many others.

Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe stands as a trailblazer in a male-dominated industry, inspiring a new generation of African entrepreneurs and women leaders. Her enduring legacy of innovation, compassion, and excellence continues to shape a more sustainable and equitable future for Ghana and beyond.
