E/R:Akyemansa DCE Leads Successful Anti-Galamsey Operation; One Arrested, Eight Changfang Machines Destroyed
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akyemansa in the Eastern Region, Hon. Linda Ahenkrah, has led a special operation by the District Galamsey Taskforce that resulted in the arrest of one person and the destruction of eight changfang machines on the Pra River at Nyamebekyere Ablade-Apetey.
The exercise forms part of the district’s renewed commitment to clamp down on illegal mining activities, which continue to threaten water bodies and farmlands in the area.
Speaking to the media after the operation, Hon. Ahenkrah reaffirmed her unwavering dedication to the government’s fight against galamsey, emphasizing that her administration will not relent until the illegal activities are completely eradicated within the Akyemansa District.
“The fight against galamsey is not an easy one, but with determination and love for our country, we are resolved to bring this menace to an end,” she stated.
She further expressed concern over the environmental damage caused by illegal mining, noting its destructive impact on water bodies, forest reserves, and farmlands. According to her, the district’s taskforce will continue to pursue offenders and dismantle their operations to protect natural resources for future generations.
The Akyemansa District NADMO Director, Mr. Anthony Bismark Boafo, also commended the DCE for her leadership and pledged NADMO’s continued support in the fight against galamsey.
“With the government’s backing and our collective efforts as a district, we will succeed in eliminating illegal mining from Akyemansa,” he assured.
The recent operation highlights the district’s determination to restore the Pra River and safeguard the environment from further destruction caused by illegal mining activities.
