E/R:Former Deputy Education Minister Visits Family of Deceased Kukurantumi Youth, Urges Calm

Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North and former Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), on Monday, September 22, 2025, paid a visit to the family of the late Kena Bright, popularly known as B Ball.

The young man allegedly died after being brutalized by police officers led by Chief Inspector Fumadoh at Akyem Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

According to Hon. Twum-Ampofo, her visit was to sympathize with the bereaved family and help calm tensions in the community.

Speaking to the media after the visit, she urged personnel of the Ghana Police Service to exercise professionalism and not emotions in carrying out their duties. She noted that based on accounts from the family, due procedure was not properly followed, as the complainant should have briefed the police after home arbitration to avoid escalation.

The family of the deceased, while expressing their grief, called for justice for their son, stressing that nothing could bring him back to life but fairness in the process would bring them some comfort.

The former MP also appealed to the family and the youth to remain calm, stressing that justice would be served. She further engaged the youth, mainly Okada riders at the scene, advising them against acts of violence that could result in the destruction of lives and property.

“The government is in charge of the nation’s affairs, and peaceful coexistence is key,” she stated.

The Okada riders’ leader, Addo Samuel, expressed gratitude to Hon. Twum-Ampofo for her intervention and assured her of their support should she contest again for the Abuakwa North seat.
