E/R:Abuakwa South NDC Communications Director Warns NPP’s Miracles Aboagye as Akwatia By-Election Unfolds

The Communications Director of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuakwa South, Mr. Aikins Ofori, who also serves as the Abuakwa South Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has issued a strong warning to Hon. Dennis Miracles Aboagye, former Presidential Staffer under the Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking ahead of today’s by-election in Akwatia, which is being held following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Hon. Yaw Kumi, Mr. Ofori declared that he and his team of supporters are fully prepared to resist any attempts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disrupt the electoral process. He alleged that recent media remarks made by Miracles Aboagye suggested an intention to interfere in the polls, a move he insists will be fiercely resisted.

“We are more than ready in Akwatia with our men. If Miracles Aboagye thinks he is man enough to come here and cause trouble, he will meet us. For now, we haven’t seen him on the ground, but we are prepared,” Mr. Ofori is reported to have said.

Today’s by-election has heightened political tension in the constituency, with both the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP determined to capture the seat. Civil society groups and religious leaders have appealed for calm, urging both parties to maintain peace and allow democracy to thrive.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has issued a stern caution to political actors and their supporters, warning that anyone who attempts to foment trouble during the elections will be dealt with in accordance with the law. The police stressed their readiness to ensure law and order, promising to protect lives, property, and the credibility of the electoral process.

The Akwatia by-election is being closely watched as a key test of party strength in the Eastern Region, with implications for the political climate ahead of the 2028 general elections.
