E/R:Man Electrocuted While Fixing Faulty Wiring at Osiem

A 36-year-old man identified as Kofi Bosomtwe, popularly known as Opanka, has tragically lost his life through electrocution at Osiem in the Abuakwa North Municipality of Ghana’s Eastern Region.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident is believed to have occurred around 10:00 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025, while the deceased was attempting to fix a faulty electrical connection in his home. Shockingly, he was discovered early the following morning, Saturday, May 24, still clutching a live wire around 5:30 am.

He was immediately rushed to the Osiem Hawa Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited at the Hawa Mortuary for further investigation by the Tafo District Police Command.

In response to the incident, officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have issued a public advisory, warning citizens to exercise extreme caution with the use of electrical appliances and exposed cables, especially during the rainy season. They emphasized that, beyond flooding, rainwater also poses a significant threat when it comes to electrical safety.

Authorities are urging residents to report and fix all exposed or damaged electrical wires promptly to prevent similar tragedies.
