Widow of Late DCOP Awuni Angwubutoge Faces Threats as Land Guards Invade Family Property in New Bortianor
Ten years after the passing of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Awuni Angwubutoge, his family is reeling from a brazen and unlawful invasion of their private property. Armed land guards, allegedly acting under the instructions of Roland Tetteh of Alrotech, have forcibly encroached upon the late officer’s land, sparking urgent calls for police intervention. The disputed property consists of four prime plots situated directly in front of the late DCOP’s residence in the “Red Top” area of New Bortianor, located behind the West Hills Mall.
According to family representatives, DCOP Awuni held rightful and long-standing possession of the land, which has been duly registered at the lands commission Accra, securely fenced and maintained by the family for the decade since his demise.
Despite this clear history of ownership, the family reports that the site has been turned into a flashpoint of intimidation. The encroachers have reportedly escalated their activities by depositing two 40-foot containers on the property, effectively laying claim to the land.
Eyewitnesses describe a climate of fear, as the individuals identified as armed land guards use threats and aggressive posturing to warn off the rightful owners and neighbors.
The situation has become particularly dire for the late officer’s widow. Sources close to the family state that she is currently living under a constant state of fear, with her personal safety under direct threat by those attempting to illegally sell the family’s land. "This is not just a land dispute; it is an assault on the peace and dignity of a family that contributed immensely to the security of this nation," a family spokesperson stated. "To see these individuals use terror tactics to dispossess a widow is an affront to the rule of law."
The family is issuing an urgent appeal to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Ghana Police Service to intervene before the situation deteriorates further. They are demanding the immediate provision of security for the widow and her household, who are currently living in fear of physical harm. Furthermore, they are calling for a thorough probe into the activities of Roland Tetteh and the individuals representing Alrotech involved in the illegal occupation.
In addition to protection and investigation, the family demands a total cessation of any ongoing or proposed sales of the four plots of land. They are seeking justice through the swift arrest and prosecution of all parties involved in the acts of trespassing, intimidation, and land grabbing. The encroachment at "Red Top" has raised significant concerns about the resurgence of land guard activities in the Greater Accra Region, leaving residents to wonder if any property is safe from such brazen acts of lawlessness. As of press time, the family remains in a defensive posture, hopeful that the Ghana Police Service will act decisively to restore order and protect the widow.
