There is brewing tension between occupants of a resettlement community in the Okere District of the Eastern Region and the indigenes of Awukugua over who owns the VRA Quarters land. In a viral video circulating on social media, two women working at a galamsey (illegal mining) site have openly declared that they will not stop their activities because they have no other means of survival. The women, frustrated by unfulfilled promises from politicians, expressed their refusal to leave galamsey without viable alternatives for income. The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Hon. Ophelia Mensah-Hayford, has paid a visit to the Ghana Landscape Restoration Projects in the Kwahu East District and Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region.
