E/R:Zongo-Pano-Mines Assembly Member Hopeful Urges Unity to Tackle Sanitation, Flooding Crisis

Mr. Abdul Rauf, a resident of the Zongo, Pano and Mines Electoral Area and an aspiring Assembly Member, has called on residents to unite and confront the growing sanitation challenges threatening the community.

Speaking on the issue, he described the sanitation situation in the area as worrying. According to him, some unscrupulous residents dump garbage into drains whenever rain clouds gather. The practice, he said, chokes the drainage system and triggers avoidable flooding that destroys property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Mr. Rauf warned that the blocked drains also pose serious public health risks, including cholera outbreaks and other water-borne diseases, especially during the rainy season.

He urged community members, particularly the youth, to rally behind him and support clean-up initiatives and sanitation education. He stressed that collective action and discipline were key to keeping drains clear and preventing future flooding.

“Sanitation is a shared responsibility. If we work together and stop indiscriminate dumping, we can save lives and property,” he said.

Mr. Rauf promised to prioritize drain desilting, public education on waste disposal, and closer collaboration with Zoomlion and the Municipal Assembly if elected Assembly Member for the area.
