E/R: CRIG Ladies Club Climaxes Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Float and Screening at Akyem Bediasi

The Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) Ladies Club has climaxed this year’s Pink Month celebration with a colourful float and a breast cancer screening exercise at Akyem Bediasi on Friday, 31st October 2025.

The event, which began with a float through the principal streets of New Tafo, brought together staff of the Cocoa Research Institute and residents to promote breast cancer awareness under the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives — Get Screened.”

The Acting Executive Director of CRIG, Dr. Owusu Domfeh, who officially launched the 2025 Pink Month celebration earlier in October, also joined the Ladies Club at the CRIG Directorate to officially bring the month-long campaign to a close.

In his remarks, Dr. Domfeh commended the CRIG Ladies Club for their hard work, commitment, and sacrifices throughout the awareness month, describing their efforts as a demonstration of true leadership and compassion. He emphasized the importance of early detection and regular screening in the fight against breast cancer and assured management’s continued support for initiatives that promote staff welfare and community health.

At Akyem Bediasi, where the float and screening exercise took place, the Chief of the community, Barimah Ofori Mintah I, warmly welcomed the CRIG delegation when they paid homage to him. He commended CRIG’s efforts in health education and urged all—both men and women—to undergo regular screening since early detection is vital in saving lives. He also encouraged individuals to seek medical attention promptly when any lumps are detected.

Barimah Ofori Mintah I further appealed to investors to consider Akyem Bediasi for development in key sectors such as education and health. He expressed concern that children in the community walk about three miles to Akyem Tafo to access education and urged the CRIG administration to prioritize the youth of Bediasi in employment opportunities to promote local development.

The President of the CRIG Ladies Club, Mrs. Irene Baah Asare, expressed appreciation to the chief and people of Bediasi for their hospitality and strong support, noting that their contribution to the success of the event was deeply felt. She also thanked management, particularly the Acting Executive Director, for his personal involvement and encouragement throughout the campaign.

Residents of Akyem Bediasi expressed excitement about the free screening exercise and called for more of such initiatives to be organized frequently to promote community health and early disease detection. They lauded the CRIG Ladies Club for extending healthcare education and screening services to their doorstep.

Breast cancer continues to rise in Ghana, affecting both women and men, with thousands of new cases reported annually. CRIG’s month-long awareness campaign, which ran from 1st–31st October 2025, featured a mental health and breast cancer seminar, outreach screening programs, an awareness walk, and a “Casual Pink Friday” initiative — all aimed at promoting early detection through education and advocacy.
