E/R:NADMO Swiftly Clears Fallen Trees from Accra–Kumasi Highway After Heavy Rains

The Abuakwa South Municipal branch of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Eastern Region, under the leadership of Mr. Akins Ofori, took swift and decisive action on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, to clear the Accra–Kumasi highway of fallen trees brought down by heavy rainfall. The prompt response, following a rapid complaint, restored clear visibility and averted potential accidents along the critical stretch between Asiakwa Junction and Apedwa Junction.

The incident occurred after a period of intense rainfall, which caused several large trees to collapse and block significant portions of the highway within the Abuakwa South Municipality. The situation posed an immediate danger to motorists, drastically reducing visibility and creating perilous driving conditions.

The alarm was raised by Eric Obeng Boateng, a journalist with GhanaWeb, who was traveling along the route and witnessed the obstruction. His swift report served as the crucial catalyst for NADMO’s rapid intervention.

Upon receiving the alert, Mr. Akins Ofori, the NADMO Director for Abuakwa South, immediately mobilized his team. Personnel equipped with the necessary tools were promptly dispatched to the affected areas between Asiakwa Junction and Apedwa Junction. Their diligent efforts ensured the swift removal of the large tree branches and debris, making the road safe for motorists once again.

“Our mandate is to ensure the safety of our citizens, especially during adverse weather conditions,” stated Mr. Akins Ofori. “Upon receiving the report from Mr. Boateng, our teams were deployed immediately. We are pleased to have cleared the path swiftly, preventing what could have been a very serious incident and ensuring the continuous flow of traffic.”

The timely intervention by the Abuakwa South NADMO team proved critical. By clearing the obstructions, the team not only restored smooth traffic flow but also significantly enhanced visibility for drivers—preventing potential collisions and safeguarding the lives of countless commuters using the vital national highway.

Eric Obeng Boateng, the journalist who reported the obstruction, also expressed his appreciation:

“The road was virtually impassable and extremely dangerous. I commend NADMO for their swift and professional response. Their quick action undoubtedly saved lives and prevented accidents today. It’s heartening to see such an effective reaction to a public safety concern.”

This incident underscores the vital role of proactive disaster management and the importance of alert citizens in reporting hazards. The collaborative effort between concerned individuals and emergency services like NADMO remains crucial to ensuring safety on Ghana’s road networks.
