E/R:Abuakwa South NADMO Director Embarks on Risk Assessment Tour to Prevent Future Disasters
As part of activities marking Disaster Risk Reduction Month, the Abuakwa South Municipal Director of NADMO, Mr. Aikins Ofori, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, toured two communities to assess potential disaster risks within the municipality.
His first stop was Kyebi Asikam, where residents had lodged complaints about an ongoing construction project that has blocked the Abrewa River, causing frequent flooding in the area whenever it rains. The situation has reportedly displaced several residents.
Mr. Ofori expressed concern over the development and called on relevant authorities, particularly the Eastern South Police Command, to intervene promptly to avert any possible disaster.
He later visited Akyem Asiakwa, where he observed a fuel filling station being constructed in a waterlogged area. The visit revealed visible cracks on the station’s walls and building, indicating structural weakness. It was also discovered that the underground fuel tanks had been filled with water — a situation he described as dangerous and unacceptable. Mr. Ofori urged the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other regulatory bodies to take immediate action.
He emphasized that disaster prevention is far better than response, and called on individuals, developers, and institutions to act responsibly and avoid practices that could trigger disasters in their communities.
