E/R:Man Arrested for Stealing Electrical Cables from Construction Site at Osiem

Osiem, Eastern Region – July 10, 2025

A 44-year-old man identified as Ali has been apprehended by a security operations team at the premises of the Saviour Church Mission in Osiem, located in the Abuakwa North Municipality of Ghana's Eastern Region. The incident occurred around 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

According to eyewitness reports, Ali was caught red-handed carrying a large sack filled with electrical cables allegedly stolen from a newly constructed two-storey building situated near the church premises. The building, which is at its final phase of construction, was said to have been recently wired, making the theft a major setback for the contractors and property owner.

The security operations team, acting on suspicion and intelligence from community members, intercepted the suspect as he attempted to flee the scene. Upon searching the sack, they discovered several bundles of electrical wires and fittings. Ali, who claimed to be a resident of Anyinam, was immediately handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further interrogation and investigation.

The police have since confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect is in custody and will be processed for court once investigations are completed. Authorities are also working to determine whether the suspect acted alone or is part of a larger syndicate targeting construction sites in the municipality.

Residents of Osiem have expressed concern over rising incidents of theft in the area and are calling for enhanced community security and street lighting to deter criminals, especially around newly developing zones. They also commended the vigilance of the security team for their swift action.

Meanwhile, church officials and the owner of the affected building have urged community members to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The Abuakwa North Municipal Police Command is urging anyone with relevant information that could aid in the investigation to come forward.
