Ahmed Anas Urges NDC Leadership to Learn from NPP’s Delegate Conference Outcomes
Accra, July 19, 2025 — Political commentator Ahmed Anas has called on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to draw crucial lessons from the just ended National Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that the current trajectory of the NDC under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama requires urgent attention and strategic reforms.
In an opinion piece dated July 19, 2025, Mr. Anas highlighted several concerns raised by party loyalists, stakeholders, and even top executives such as National Chairman Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. He noted that six months into the Mahama administration, key challenges such as strategic appointments, party cohesion, apathy among grassroots members, and emerging internal presidential ambitions are threatening the party’s success.
According to Mr. Anas, the NDC must not overlook the silent yet powerful signals from the recent NPP National Delegates Conference. He pointed to the absence of former Presidents Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor from the conference, constitutional amendments that previously helped the NPP secure electoral victories, and internal calls for peace and unity within the party—all of which hold important lessons for the NDC.
He warned that the current state of governance and internal party management risks deepening discontent among party frontliners. He recommended that President Mahama take immediate action to realign with the expectations of the grassroots and core supporters.
Among his proposals, Mr. Anas suggested:
The resignation of current Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and his replacement with trusted party loyalists such as Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, or Shamima Muslim.
A comprehensive review of recent appointments, with a call to quietly remove lingering NPP-aligned appointees.
Prioritizing appointments for individuals who played key roles in the NDC’s electoral success at all levels.
He further emphasized that the successful implementation of key policies such as the 24-Hour Economy Initiative and the Accelerated Export Development Programme must be insulated from political interference to ensure sustainable economic transformation.
Ahmed Anas concluded his appeal with a direct message to President Mahama, National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, urging them to rise to the occasion for the good of the party and the nation.
“NDC and Ghana are in your hands. The youth and the entire country are watching. A word to the wise is enough,” he stated.
