E/R:NRSA Director Embarks on Inspection Tour of Nkawkaw-Kumasi Highway
Addresses Deadly Road Accidents and Calls for Safety Interventions
The Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Lawyer Abraham Amaliba, led a delegation comprising staff from the NRSA headquarters in Accra, the Eastern Regional Office, and the Eastern North MTTD Police to pay a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Kwahu West, Hon. Tamimu Halidu. The meeting focused on addressing pressing issues related to the Nkawkaw By-Pass section of the Nkawkaw-Kumasi Highway.
Following the meeting, the team conducted an inspection tour along the Nkawkaw-Kumasi Highway By-Pass. The visit aimed to assess compliance with road safety regulations, particularly the indiscriminate parking of long vehicles—a practice that has been linked to frequent and deadly accidents in the area.
During the inspection, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba emphasized the urgent need for immediate interventions to address the safety hazards on the By-Pass. He described the situation as a major risk to road users and called on the Eastern North MTTD Commander, Superintendent Foster Asante, to take swift action by removing long vehicles parked illegally along the road. He stressed that ensuring the safety of travelers must be a top priority.
In response, Hon. Tamimu Halidu, MCE for the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly, welcomed the NRSA delegation and praised the Authority for its ongoing efforts to promote road safety across the country. He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the NRSA’s operations, noting that collaborative engagement with stakeholders is key to achieving sustainable safety solutions.
He further emphasized the importance of tackling driver indiscipline and urged all motorists to comply with road safety directives. The MCE stated that the Assembly would continue to work closely with the NRSA to implement effective interventions and reduce road crashes in the municipality.
