E/R:Bethel Congregation Embarks on Educational Excursion to Parliament, Mausoleum, and Airport

Akyem Asafo, Eastern Region — On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Bethel Congregation – Akyem Asafo, led by Rev. Richard Amponsah Marfo and the church Session, embarked on a memorable educational excursion to three major national landmarks: Parliament House of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, and Kotoka International Airport.


A total of sixty-eight participants, comprising church leaders and members, took part in the well-organized trip designed to foster civic engagement, cultural appreciation, and fellowship within the congregation.


The group was warmly received and taken on guided tours at all three locations. At Parliament House, members gained insight into the legislative process and the essential role of parliamentarians in Ghana’s democracy. The visit to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum offered a reflective moment as the group paid tribute to Ghana’s first president and his contribution to the nation’s independence. At Kotoka International Airport, participants were exposed to Ghana’s growing aviation infrastructure, learning about its operations and significance in global travel.


The excursion also served as a platform to strengthen bonds among church members, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to connect, learn, and grow together in faith and knowledge.


The Bethel Congregation expressed profound gratitude to God for the success and safety of the trip. Special appreciation was also extended to Rev. Richard Amponsah Marfo and the Session for their visionary leadership and commitment to organizing the event. The congregation also acknowledged the efforts of the planning team and the participation of every member who contributed to making the outing a resounding success.


Church leaders emphasized that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana remains committed to promoting not only spiritual growth, but also civic responsibility and cultural awareness among its members. The congregation looks forward to organizing similar excursions in the future to continue building unity, knowledge, and deeper community engagement.

The Chief of Coaltar in the Eastern Region, Barima Asiedu Okekrebesi II, has been destooled following a violent clash in Kraboa, a farming community in the Ayensuano District, which led to the tragic deaths of two individuals. The destoolment was officially announced by a delegation of traditional leaders (Nananom), led by the Apapamhene and Amantuomiensahene, Osabarima Okogyeaman Apagya Fori. The delegation carried out the customary destoolment process at the Coaltar Palace. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, January 16, 2025, stemmed from growing tensions over alleged illegal land sales and crop destruction in the area. Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, the parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa South Constituency, has extended a generous hand to support local youth and artisans. In a heartwarming ceremony held at Akyem Maase, Dr. Agyeman, along with key New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executives, donated essential equipment and financial support to aspiring apprentices in dressmaking and hairdressing. Koforidua, Ghana – The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has inaugurated a nine-member illegal mining task force to combat the growing menace of galamsey and protect the region’s lands, forests, and water bodies for future generations.
