E/R:Akyem Adadientam Chief Builds 1.2km Town Road Without Government Aid, Urges Support for Community-Led Projects

In a powerful demonstration of grassroots leadership and commitment to local development, the Chief of Akyem Adadientam, Barima Ofori Asante, has fulfilled a key promise to his people by initiating the construction of a 1.2-kilometre town road, fully funded by the chief and community elders.

True to a pledge made during his enstoolment in December 2022, Barima Ofori Asante has mobilized local resources to address a long-standing challenge — the deplorable state of the town’s main road. Once completed, the new road is expected to greatly ease transportation and boost socio-economic activity in the community.

The road project is being executed by REBISA Company Ltd and includes the construction of 0.6-meter diameter U-drains and paving block surfacing. The contractor, Bafour Boamah Darko, who also serves as the Mawerehene of the town, has assured the community that, barring funding setbacks, the project will be completed by December 2025.

Remarkably, the entire initiative is being financed without any support from government or external institutions. Through prudent financial management, the chief and elders have raised 1.2 million Ghana cedis to fund the project, setting a notable example of self-reliance and communal responsibility.

“We must break free from the cycle of over-reliance on government. True empowerment begins when communities take ownership of their development,” stated Barima Ofori Asante. His vision underscores the importance of civic leadership and local initiative in national development.

Despite the progress made, the chief is appealing to government agencies, development partners, and philanthropic organizations to support the project. With additional resources, he believes Adadientam can achieve even greater milestones in infrastructure and community welfare.

The details of the project are as follows:

Project: 1.2km Town Road Construction

Client: Adadientam Chief and Elders

Consultant: DUR-Kyebi

Contractor: REBISA Company Ltd

Funding Source: Chief and Elders (GHS 1.2 million)

Scope: 0.6m U-drains, Paving Block Surfacing

Estimated Completion: December 2025

This bold, community-funded infrastructure project highlights what can be achieved through visionary leadership and local unity. As the town of Adadientam moves forward, its people hope their efforts will inspire similar community-driven development initiatives across Ghana.
