E/R: Update: 13-Year-Old Student Brutally Murdered at Osiem; One Suspect Arrested

A tragic incident has thrown the community of Akyem Osiem-Kyekyewere in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region into mourning, following the gruesome murder of a 13-year-old student on the evening of Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

The deceased, identified as Richmond K. Antony — a Form One student of Akyem Osiem SDA Junior High School and popularly known as “Paa” — was reportedly attacked and butchered in front of an uncompleted building near his home by an unknown assailant.

According to the boy’s father, Richmond had stepped out around 7:00 p.m. to buy food but returned minutes later with deep cutlass wounds on his body, crying for help. He was immediately rushed to Hawa Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The incident has since been reported to the Akyem New Tafo Police Command. A man nicknamed “Holy,” who owns the uncompleted building where the attack occurred, has been arrested and is currently assisting police with investigations.

Meanwhile, some residents have alleged that the suspect had previously issued threats, warning that anyone found loitering on his property at night — due to suspected theft of crops — would be butchered. Many believe this prior threat may be linked to the boy’s untimely death.

The police have assured the public of a thorough investigation and have called for calm as they work to establish the full facts of the case.
