E/R: Police Impound Two Tipper Trucks Loaded with 150 Sacks of Suspected Marijuana Hidden Under Sand
The Eastern Regional Police Command has intercepted two tipper trucks carrying 150 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana during a targeted intelligence-led operation.
According to a statement from the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh, the operation took place on Tuesday, June 11, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m. The trucks—identified as Howo Sino models with registration numbers GN 9931-14 and GG 3674-20—were impounded at Apesua, near Nkurakan in the Eastern Region.
The suspected contraband was cleverly concealed beneath heaps of sand in both vehicles. Police swiftly arrested the drivers of the trucks, who are currently assisting with investigations.
This interception forms part of the Ghana Police Service’s ongoing nationwide crackdown on the smuggling of illegal drugs. The initiative has recently led to the arrest of numerous suspects and the confiscation of significant quantities of narcotic substances across various regions of the country.
Authorities say investigations are still ongoing and urge the public to assist by reporting suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
