Mahama Can Never Be Trusted; He Has Taken Us Back to the Dark Days of Dumsor — Aaron Asante Recounts the Dumsor Era

President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have once again proven beyond doubt that they are the architects of Ghana’s energy woes. The infamous "dumsor" crisis, which crippled the nation during Mahama’s tenure, was not merely a series of power outages — it marked a severe disruption to Ghana’s economic stability. Under his leadership, countless businesses collapsed, jobs were lost, and homes and hospitals were thrown into darkness, endangering lives across the country. The very term "dumsor" became widely recognized during his administration — a lasting scar on Ghana’s development journey.

Today, as power outages re-emerge with disturbing regularity, it is evident that Mahama and his party have failed to learn from their past. Their promises of a 24-hour economy ring hollow to millions of hardworking Ghanaians. How can we entrust our future to a party that once led us into an era of consistent power failures? The recurrence of blackouts is a clear sign that the NDC’s inefficiency remains unaddressed.

John Jinapor and the current energy team must stop deflecting blame and take decisive action. Ghanaians deserve more than empty speeches — they deserve stable electricity, sustainable jobs, and a robust economy. Yet, the NDC continues to fall short, unable to clear energy sector debts, maintain essential infrastructure, or manage resources effectively. This negligence is plunging the country back into darkness.

Under Mahama’s leadership, the foundation of Ghana’s energy sector was undermined, and now the same leadership is positioning itself as the solution provider. This is nothing short of betrayal. Ghana needs leadership that can keep the lights on and power the nation’s ambitions — not one that drives us into another era of darkness.
